Collierville picks up trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk items once a week, Monday to Thursday by zone. Holiday delays, leaf season and the transfer station.

Last checked Oct. 17, 2026. Facts on this page come from the Town of Collierville’s Solid Waste and Recycling page, its Solid Waste Division Guidelines (PDF, updated July 2025), the sanitation collection map (PDF) and the town’s FY27 budget announcement.

The Town of Collierville’s own crews pick up household garbage, recycling, bagged yard waste, brush and bulk items once a week, on the same day, Monday through Thursday depending on your zone. Have everything at the curb by 7 a.m. on your day, or the night before. Find your day on the town’s sanitation collection map, or call Public Services at 901-457-2800.

Who to call

  • Public Services, Sanitation Division (missed pickup, appliances, damaged carts): 901-457-2800, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays
  • Utility billing at Town Hall (new service, carts, moving out): 901-457-2240, 500 Poplar View Parkway
  • Shelby County Household Hazardous Waste facility: 901-222-7729
  • Report a problem online: the town’s Mayor’s Action Center

What goes where

Item How to set it out
Household garbage Inside the town’s green cart, lid closed or propped on bagged trash, never overflowing
Recycling The burgundy 96-gallon cart, same day as garbage
Bagged grass, leaves, pine needles Tied plastic bags, no more than 30 pounds each, set apart from other items
Tree limbs Cut to 8 feet or less, stacked in a separate pile clear of wires, mailboxes and hydrants
Furniture, boxes, mattresses, clean-outs One pile at the curb on your regular day
Appliances Call 901-457-2800 before Wednesday afternoon for a Thursday pickup

Place the green cart behind the curb, at least 5 feet from anything, with the opening facing the street; the automated truck cannot empty a cart set out wrong, and it empties only town carts. Pull the cart back from the curb by 7 a.m. the day after collection. Everything else goes behind the curb or ditch line, out of the street and off the sidewalk.

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners are collected only after a certified technician has removed and tagged the refrigerant. Contractor debris (lumber, drywall, roofing, concrete, brick) is not collected by the town; the owner or contractor disposes of it. Piles over 10 cubic yards are collected 10 yards a week, or the town hauls the extra for a per-load fee set in its guidelines.

Holiday schedule, rest of 2026

The town posts each holiday week on its Solid Waste and Recycling page. The remaining 2026 changes:

  • Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11: Monday and Tuesday routes as usual. Wednesday and Thursday garbage, recycling, yard waste and commercial routes run one day late.
  • Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 26: Monday to Wednesday as usual. Thursday’s collection moves to Friday, Nov. 27. No appliance pickup Nov. 26; the next is Dec. 3.
  • Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24: crews work, and all routes run on their regular day. No appliance pickup Dec. 24; the next is Dec. 31.

Earlier in 2026, collection ran a day late in the weeks of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day. The 2027 schedule had not been posted on Oct. 17.

Leaf season: November to February

From the first Monday in November through the last week of February, the town’s vacuum trucks collect loose, unbagged leaves. Rake them near the curb but out of the gutter, no more than 5 feet behind the curb, and keep limbs and twigs out of the pile. Pine needles are not vacuumed; bag them for your regular day. Leaf routes follow the weekly schedule as closely as they can, but heavy leaf fall and weather can push collection back by days or, in some weeks, more than a week. To skip the wait, bag the leaves or mulch them with the mower.

Recycling: what the cart takes

Recycling carts are not issued automatically: a resident buys one at Town Hall utility billing, and it is then collected weekly with the garbage. The material goes to the West Tennessee Regional Recycling Hub, which accepts:

  • Paper: newspaper, office paper, junk mail, magazines, paperback books, paper bags
  • Cardboard: boxes and cereal and food boxes, cut to fit the cart
  • Plastic: No. 1 and No. 2 bottles, jugs and jars only
  • Metal: aluminum and steel cans, foil and pie pans

No glass, plastic bags or film, foam, shredded paper, No. 3 to No. 7 plastics, rigid plastic toys and totes, hoses, cords, clothing, batteries or paint. Contamination costs the town a fee and the load goes to the landfill.

Transfer station and hazardous waste

  • Collierville Solid Waste Transfer Station, 450 E. South St.: extra household garbage and bulky items, Collierville residents only, Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon.
